Cranberry Sauce Recipe
Cranberry Sauce Recipe
Most people buy canned cranberry sauce because making it from scratch seems intimidating, but a homemade version is simple, fresh, and full of bright flavor.
Cranberry Sauce Recipe
Serves: 6–8
Prep time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
1 12-ounce bag fresh cranberries, rinsed and picked over
½ cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons honey (use organic if preferred)
Zest of 2 oranges
Juice of 2 oranges
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
½ teaspoon kosher or sea salt
Directions
Place the rinsed cranberries in a medium stainless steel or heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Add the sugar, honey, orange zest, orange juice, cinnamon, black pepper, and salt.
Stir the mixture occasionally as it warms. After about 10–12 minutes the cranberries will begin to burst and the sauce will thicken slightly. Taste and adjust sweetness or seasoning as desired.
Remove the pan from the heat and let the sauce cool for about 30 minutes—it will continue to set as it cools. Transfer to a serving bowl or jar and refrigerate if not serving right away.
Serve the cranberry sauce alongside roast turkey, pork, or as a condiment with sandwiches and cheeses.
Happy holidays!
