Budget-Friendly Lunch: Hot Dog Roll-Ups
Hi Tawra,
Here’s a simple, budget-friendly variation on your Hot Doggie Roll Ups that’s just as tasty. Instead of using canned biscuits or crescent rolls, use plain sandwich bread for a lighter, cheaper option. Start by buttering one side of a bread slice. Place a cooked hot dog diagonally across the unbuttered side. Fold the two corners of the bread up over the hot dog to enclose it, and secure the seams with a toothpick if needed. Arrange the roll-ups on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10–15 minutes, or until the bread is golden and slightly crisp. For best results, pre-cook the hot dogs before assembling.
My mother-in-law used to make these for her kids and called them “Weiny Winks.” They’re quick to prepare, kid-friendly, and a great way to stretch simple ingredients into a satisfying lunch.
Thanks for a great newsletter!
