This frozen red, white, and blue drink is a festive, sweet, fruity, and refreshing cocktail or mocktail to serve guests. The slushy layers deliver distinct flavors with each sip, making it a perfect patriotic treat for summer gatherings.

I partnered with the Dairy Council of Florida to bring you this festive patriotic drink.
This frozen layered drink is similar to a classic red, white, and blue beverage, but because it’s frozen the white and blue layers use slightly different ingredients to create a creamy, slushy texture.
How This Layered Drink Is Different
- The red layer uses frozen strawberries for a fresh, daiquiri-like flavor.
- The white layer is a creamy vanilla yogurt slush. The yogurt adds richness and some protein, making it a nice option when kids are enjoying the drink.
- The blue layer is made with either alcoholic or non-alcoholic blue curacao, depending on whether you’re serving adults or kids.

Ingredient Tips
- Frozen strawberries: Essential for the slushy texture. If using fresh strawberries, add extra ice.
- Yogurt: Use your favorite vanilla yogurt. Full-fat varieties are thicker and creamier for the middle layer.
- Grenadine: A sweet, alcohol-free red syrup used in the red layer.
- Blue curacao: Available as an alcohol-free syrup or as a liqueur for adults. The syrup is budget-friendly and still gives vibrant color and flavor.
- Liquor: Coconut rum and Bailey’s work well, but you can substitute other flavored rums, vodkas, or creamy liqueurs.
- Ice: Plenty of crushed ice helps achieve the best slushy consistency.

Layering Tips
Use a large spoon to gently add and smooth each layer. Because grenadine has a heavier density, placing the red layer at the bottom helps create clean separation.
Note: As the drink sits (more than an hour), the white and blue layers may start to sink. Serve and enjoy soon after assembling.
Blender Tips
A strong blender helps produce a smooth slush for each layer. Small personal blenders like a Magic Bullet or similar compact model work well and are convenient for making multiple portions.

Alcohol Options
Rum and vodka both work well in frozen drinks. Flavored spirits can add a complementary taste. Popular options include:
- Pineapple rum
- Mango rum
- Strawberry vodka
- Bailey’s (for a creamy white layer)
- Raspberry vodka
Make It Kid Friendly!
To make a kid-friendly version, replace any liquor with water, milk, or cream for the white layer. Blend as usual—kids will love the bright colors and slushy texture.
Fun bendy straws add extra excitement for kids and make sipping the layered drink more playful.
How To Make This Drink In Advance
Blending each layer is the most time-consuming step. You can prepare double or triple batches of each layer an hour or two ahead and store them in the freezer in separate containers. When ready to serve, spoon or pour the layers into glasses and enjoy.

Red, White & Blue Frozen Drink (For Kids OR Adults!)
Pin Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 oz. grenadine syrup
- 10-12 frozen strawberries
- ½ cup ice, crushed
- ½-1 oz rum or vodka (optional for adults)
- ⅓ cup vanilla yogurt
- ⅔ cup ice, crushed
- 1 oz. milk or cream or Bailey’s for adults
- 3 ½ oz. blue curacao syrup or blue curacao liqueur for adults
- ¾ cup ice, crushed
Method
-
Add the ingredients for each layer into a blender and puree until smooth.
-
If a layer is too thick to blend, add a little more liqueur or water (for a kid-friendly version) to help it blend smoothly.
-
Transfer each blended layer into separate freezer-proof cups and freeze until ready to assemble and serve.
Notes
You will need a blender to make this recipe. A small personal blender is helpful because it often comes with multiple cups for easy prep.
If freezing each blended layer for more than an hour, the mixture may solidify. Transfer containers to the fridge briefly to soften, or let the mixture sit a short time before blending again.
Another option is to pre-measure ingredients for each layer into separate cups so you can quickly blend and assemble the drink right before serving.
