The leaves are turning and the evenings are cooler—this spiked apple cider captures everything we love about fall in one warm, comforting drink.

If you brought home apples from the orchard and want tasty ways to use them, this cocktail is a great start. It’s also a festive option for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving. For non-drinkers, the cider itself is delicious on its own.

This recipe is delightfully simple: just apple cider and whiskey. You can also swap in rum or use Fireball for a cinnamon-forward version. Warm the cider with your chosen spirit on the stovetop and serve immediately.

What You Need for Spiked Apple Cider

This warm, boozy cider requires only two main ingredients:

Apple Cider

Homemade apple cider makes an excellent base, flavored with apples, citrus, maple syrup, and classic fall spices such as cloves, allspice and cinnamon sticks. If you don’t have an Instant Pot or prefer convenience, fresh apple cider from an orchard or a grocery store jug works perfectly.

Liquor

Whiskey and rum are both great choices. Whiskey lends a warming depth, while rum adds sweetness. For a spicier profile, try a cinnamon whiskey like Fireball.

Spiked Apple Cider Variations

Customize this drink by using your preferred homemade or store-bought cider and the liquor you enjoy most. Whiskey and rum give the best traditional flavors; Fireball works well if you want a cinnamon kick.

To serve a non-alcoholic version, simply heat the apple cider and serve it plain.
