I attended a pre-grand opening event at the new Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar in Arlington, the company’s second location in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I arrived with little background about the concept other than knowing it was new, sports-themed and inspired by Louisiana cuisine, and I left impressed by how much higher the quality felt compared with a typical sports bar.

Drinks and Appetizers
Walk-On’s is unmistakably a sports bar, with roughly 80 TVs and sports-themed decor throughout, but the overall design, food and service elevate it beyond the usual neighborhood bar-and-grill. During the event we sampled a range of appetizers. Standouts included boudin balls, fried alligator, the tuna tini and grilled boneless wings with a bright sweet chili glaze.

Another highlight was the Boom Boom Shrimp: fried shrimp tossed in a creamy aioli-based boom boom sauce with sliced green onions, served on a bed of red and green cabbage. It outshone several other apps and was one of the most memorable bites of the night.

I tried the “Bandita” cocktail to sample a signature drink. It’s a sweeter, tequila-forward cocktail made with Camarena Reposado, Patron Citronge Mango Liqueur and citrus and simple syrups, finished with a splash of a red blend and an orange twist. If you prefer beer, the selection is broad and playful—there are even two booths with self-serve beer taps.

Entrées at Walk-On’s Bistreaux & Bar Arlington
For mains, we sampled two different entrées. The Sweet Chili Salmon arrived with a glaze similar to the one on the boneless wings and was paired with fresh, well-seasoned green beans and garlic bread. The glaze added a balanced sweet-heat that complemented the fish without overpowering it.

The Crawfish Etou-Ways featured crawfish étouffée served with rice, fried crawfish, green onions and a slice of garlic bread. The dish delivered classic Louisiana flavors; the sauce was rich and begged for an extra piece of bread to soak up every last bit.

Best Bite of the Night — Dessert
Unexpectedly, dessert stole the show. Walk-On’s Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding was a standout—decadent, comforting and expertly balanced. It’s the kind of dessert that makes a compelling reason to return on its own.

Atmosphere, Service and Uniforms
The interior design and atmosphere felt a step above many sports bars: despite the multitude of screens encouraging watch parties, the flooring, seating and finishes create a comfortable, family-friendly environment. It’s a place that can host game-day crowds while also serving a relaxed dinner for families or small groups.

Walk-On’s has also avoided the overly revealing uniform trend seen at some sports bars. During my visit the staff uniforms felt approachable and practical: blue shirts with black pants for female team members and red shirts with black pants for males. The company founder, who was a walk-on basketball player at LSU, notes that their customer base across locations is roughly evenly split between men and women, and the uniforms reflect that inclusive, broad-appeal approach.
